Children Diabetes : What Parents Should Know

I'm listed in Life & Lifestyle

Did you know that diabetes disease is the 7th leading silent-human killer in the United States? Out of 23.6 million people including children, 7.8 % of total population has diabetes. Sad to think, out of 4 people one is not aware that he/she has. Diabetes can be scary, the more to children affected on it - this can lead to serious health problem complications.

Few of those complications are blindness, kidney damage, and heart disease and limb amputations. No medication yet that specifically eliminate diabetes. Medications are temporarily an aid to lower down or maintain right level of blood glucose, normal blood pressure and cholesterol level.

In children diabetes, what parents should know is one of the best tool that could add the children (affected) a greater chance of surviving.

Managing diabetes is indeed time consuming especially if it involves special care, like carbohydrate counting, exercise monitoring, blood glucose monitoring, exact time interval of oral medications, insulin if the body demands.

There are two types of diabetes:

Type One Diabetes
Juvenile diabetes or insulin-dependent diabetes - the pancreas supplies less or no insulin at all. It needs a hormone to let the sugar to go into the cells to produce energy.

Type Two DiabetesIt is commonly called juvenile diabetes. It happens when the body becomes resistant to the effects or doesn't produce right amount of insulin needed.

Genetics and exposure to different viruses are the few of contributors of this type of diabetes though it usually appears on adolescence stage of a man; it can also develop at any age.

All type of diabetes has no cure yet, however it can be manageable through strict compliance of the patient.
With proper care and treatment, type one diabetic-patient could live longer compared in the past without proper monitoring.

Type Two Diabetes spares no age when it strikes though it is common in adult individual. Children affected with this type of diabetes develop a chronic condition affecting the way the body metabolizes sugar or glucose.
Nowadays, this type of diabetes is fast rising due to unhealthy lifestyle of the young generations - it triggered widely by obesity epidemic.

There's a lot of ways we can do to help or prevent this type of diabetes in the children. One of these is by
educating and encouraging children to eat healthy foods not always on over-the-counter foods or at different fast food chain. Support the children in whatever physical activities they love to do to train them to have daily physical fitness or any perspiring activities. Maintain healthy and appropriate weight level.

Insulin and oral medicines are other options if type 2=two diabetes can't be controlled by healthy diet and intense physical activities.

Type One Diabetes in children is common that's why others call it juvenile diabetes or insulin-dependent diabetes. Child's pancreas do not anymore produce right amount of insulin in order for a child to survive - and this is where insulin comes in.

Managing type-one diabetes in children needs extra patience and dedication. It needs monitoring and consistent care. However, advance blood glucose monitoring and insulin assistance have develop a greater chance of child survival.
